An international student who reported being held hostage for more than two weeks has been located by police and is now recovering in a Sydney hospital.

Jingwang Ye was at the centre of a bizarre kidnapping and subsequent ransom demand, after going missing from his rental apartment in Hurtsville on August 23.

After his disappearance, the University of Technology Student's WeChat account was used to send demands for a Bitcoin ransom amounting to more than $1 million dollars be paid to his kidnappers.

One such demand included a video of Mr Ye pleading for his father to pay the ransom, while his head and eyes were bound with black tape and his face appeared to be covered in dried blood.

The demands were sent to Mr Ye's father in China. It is unknown if any ransom was paid.

In a statement to MOJO News, a New South Wales police spokesperson said, “a man was located by police at Mooney Mooney on the state’s Central Coast about 5.30pm (Sunday)”.

Police said Jingwang Ye had since been reunited with his family. His father arrived in Australia on Saturday, while the search for his son was underway.

Police are now investigating what happened to the 20 year-old student between August 23, when he was reported missing, and September 1 when he was located 70 kilometres away from his rental apartment.

The NSW police spokesperson said no charges have been laid at this stage and the investigation is ongoing.

MOJO News has contacted Mr Ye's father, but he is yet to provide any comment.
