A Student Guide to Caulfield Campus

BY COBY RENKIN

Whether you’re a first year (affectionately known as a Jaffy) or just a newbie to the Caulfield campus, life at university can be scary.

In light of this, MOJO surveyed 30 Caulfield campus students for some quick tips on how to survive uni life.

Here we go.

Facebook groups

Monash StalkerSpace is a must-join Facebook group.

It has quality, relatable memes, tips and general Monash-related content that is a must for all new students.

For those looking for love, Monash Love Letters is the place to hit up that cutie you saw lining up out the front of Boost the other day.

You might meet the love of your life but, if not, hopefully you'll have a good laugh amidst all the bad dates.

Getting around

The Caulfield Campus isn’t huge, but it can still be daunting.

Download the Lost on Campus by StudentVIP app and it will show you exactly how to get anywhere you please on campus.

That way you can skip feeling humiliated when you walk into class 10 minutes late, because you couldn’t find the building.

Food

Take advantage of free food on campus!

MONSU, Caulfield’s Student Union, provides a free big brekkie (eggs and bacon) every second Thursday morning and a smaller breakfast every Tuesday (cereal and toast).

They also hold a Mid-Week Meat every Wednesday, where they have a free barbecue for all on The Green.

MONSU also runs an initiative called The Pantry, which provides essentials to students experiencing financial hardship.

Otherwise, for times where no free food is to be found, most students turn to Zambrero for hunger relief.

Second year student and Zambrero enthusiast Kamela Mico said it was her favourite place to grab a snack on campus.

“Everything they make is just so good,” Ms Mico said.

Coffee

More than 70 per cent of students surveyed said the best on-campus coffee is found at Flipside, located on the first floor of the library.

They also make an excellent hot chocolate, for those less devoted to caffeine.

If you’re looking for a cheaper option, head to 7-Eleven (opposite Caulfield station) for a $1 coffee.

Study spaces

The most popular study space of choice is the library, however, it can get very crowded and it’s often difficult to find a seat.

When the library isn’t an option, other noteworthy areas are Level 3 of Building C, Level 3 of Building K, the MONSU Lounge on Level 2 of Building S, and the basement of building H, next to the café Sable Drop.

Sable Drop, found in the basement of building H, is also a bit of a hidden gem.

Second year student Olivia Busby couldn’t imagine studying without her snacks.

“I love Sable Drop because it allows me to eat and study,” Ms Busby said.
