Rocking a leotard fashioned from plastic road-safety fencing, comedian and singer Alice Tovey steps on stage for her show, Garbage Monster.

The comedian begins by telling the audience that it’s “bin night”, a time to air all their nasty garbage to the world.

Relating the way people hide the things they don’t like about themselves to stuffing objects into a bra, Ms Tovey delivers a smashing performance of musical comedy.

Audience members were encouraged to air their own garbage during the captivating performance, laughing as they were told to take off their “shame bras” and wave them around.

The hilarious show centred around themes of forgiveness, hatred, self-care, and the difficulties of being a sexy feminist.

“There’s so much that we compartmentalise and hide within society, and the show is about those things,” Ms Tovey said.

“In essence, the things that are hidden and thrown away. Things that we should talk about, but people are too scared to.”

With her best friend and musical director Ned Dixon on hand, the show was sprinkled with fantastic piano work to lighten the mood and add extra flair to the already outstanding performance.

Garbage Monster also lifted the lid on the behaviour of certain male celebrities, others’ misconceptions and opinions of the comedian herself, and the lies women tell.

The opera singer-turned-comedian combined her operatic vocals with witty one-liners, which she called “feminist bangers”.

Audience members were either laughing uproariously, or stamping their feet and applauding her vocal talent.

Garbage Monster is hilarious, full of catchy songs, and leaves you with a few things to ponder.
