Bach Recap: Sexologists, breakdowns and a shock elimination

By ATARA THENABADU

This week on The Bachelor, we settled down for some chemistry testing with a sexologist, hometown visits, a breakdown or two, and a bombshell exit from the mansion!

It was the second last week of The Bachelor, so we expected Matt’s head to be all over the place because he’s just realised that he actually has to commit to one woman after dating 28 of them.

With only five women remaining (Abbie, Elly, Emma, Chelsie, and Helena) at the start of the week, Matt was tasked with sending two women home and his decision has SHOCKED the nation!

Matt will make his final decision next week, and if this week is anything to go by, it will be a rollercoaster of emotions. PHOTO: Channel 10

But before we give you too many spoilers, let’s discuss the random sexologist that visited the mansion on Wednesday night to test Matt’s chemistry with the five women.

Matt was blindfolded and one-by-one each of the women gave him a hug. The real entertainment came from watching the reactions of the other women as they watched all the cringe on Bachelor spy cam that was conveniently set up for them.

Psychological torture? Tick.

After all the hugging and unnecessary commentary from the sexologist, Matt chose country girl Elly as the best hugger.

The second test for sexual chemistry involved staring into Matt’s eyes while, you guessed it, the other women were forced to watch.

Gemini Abbie had a few words to say about country girl Elly, who she believed had no spark with Matt.

This was met with Elly saying, “Matt is blinded by Abbie.”

Matt chose Elly for the single date, which made all the other women weep in disappointment.

Elly was the clear favourite to win Matt’s heart, or so we thought...

During their alone time, Elly brought up her concerns about Abbie, who she believed was just there to build an Instagram following.

Rookie error by Elly because we all know that getting bitchy is an immediate red flag for Matt.

But we weren’t too worried at this point about Elly’s future with Matt because they are soulmates and we knew they could overcome the momentary distraction.

But to everyone’s surprise, Matt then went and chose Abbie for a single date.

When Matt brought up the rumours about her only being there for social media, Abbie switched into acting mode and denied all the claims...it must have been a fantastic performance because Matt completely fell for it!

Elly and Abbie’s feud has received so much screen time that it was hard to believe the producers would let Matt send one of them home, especially when there’s three other women who he has appeared to not pay much attention to.

But in a shocking elimination ceremony on Wednesday night, crowd-favourite Elly was left without a rose! This is all your fault, Abbie.

In my opinion, Elly may have dodged a serious bullet.

Still reeling from Wednesday night’s tragedy, we had to watch the other four women have hometown visits on Thursday. It was like putting salt on a wound because Elly deserved to be there.

Matt travelled across the country to meet the remaining women’s families.

Gemini Abbie was first up, and before Matt met her family in Brisbane, they went on a date that purely consisted of make-out sessions and some serious pash-rash.

Finally Matt met Abbie’s family and was given the tick of approval by Abbie’s Uncle Rob.

At chemical engineer Chelsie’s hometown visit in Melbourne, her sister Shannon was the grill-master and questioned the premise of the show from the beginning, but eventually warmed to Matt.

Matt then travelled to Sydney where he met stage-five clinger Emma’s family: her two dogs.

After playing with the dogs for their entire date, Matt was probably wondering if Emma actually had human friends.

It turns out she does! But her friend Gen wasn’t so sure about the compatibility of the pair. Emma may have been better off sticking with the dogs...

Finally, Matt headed to Perth for Helena’s hometown visit.

From the get-go, Helena's dad looked like he wanted to strangle Matt.

Also, Matt forgot Helena spoke French when they first met on the red carpet, which resulted in Helena having a breakdown.

Matt got a taste of his own medicine when Helena then told him that she wanted to leave the show. Now he knows what it feels like to be dumped on national television.

He convinced her to stay, but as soon as he left the room Helena decided that she actually didn’t like him, resulting in another emotional conversation with Matt in her driveway.

Once again Matt convinced her to stay...but it would be a miracle if Helena actually stuck around because she seems to be able to change her mind in seconds.

Fast forward to the rose ceremony in Sydney.

Abbie, Chelsie, and Emma were all standing there but Helena was nowhere to be seen...until she arrived late and we all held our breath for another breakdown.

Helena managed to keep her cool and received a rose.

As expected, we said goodbye to stage-five clinger Emma.

Heading into the final week of The Bachelor, chemical engineer Chelsie, Gemini Abbie, and emotionally-unstable Helena are the final three.

Bring on the fireworks!
