Music blog making an impact for Monash student

By GRAINNE LALOR

A 19-year-old-Monash student has been making waves in the music blogging world with more than 100,000 views on her blog Artist 1 on 1.

“The blog really kicked off around the middle of 2018,” Leeann Bushnaq said, and it has been on the rise ever since.

“It started off quite unconventionally, usually people start off promoting music then they go into the interviews but I did it the other way around,” Ms Bushnaq said.

Ms Bushnaq has been heavily praised for her work on Artist 1 on 1 by her readers and by those she interviews.

Ms Bushnaq is a second-year student studying Business and Media and Communications.

She started the blog as a way to make artists “more personable” to the public and “to add more dimensions” to the music she was listening to.

“I also started it to let musicians feel appreciated,” Ms Bushnaq said.

Artist 1 on 1 is a platform for Ms Bushnaq to post her interviews and reviews of music artists from around the world.

“The operation is all me from the interviews to the web design and the admin,” she said.

Artist 1 on 1, which promises to deliver “the most authentic and honest interviews of your favourite artists”, s a place for music lovers of all types to enjoy.

“I try to keep it as diverse as possible, but I do like Indie pop and Indie rock as my main focus, and I always love featuring Australian artists so they have an opportunity to express themselves and rise to the top,” Ms Bushnaq said.

Interviews and reviews of high-profile artists such as Kacey Musgraves, Parcels and Bene feature on her blog.

Ms Bushnaq’s insightful writing and interviewing style have allowed her to produce in-depth, exciting blog posts that have had viewers from all over the globe.

Running the blog has been a fun opportunity and a real learning experience, she said, and she encourages other students to follow in her footsteps.

“I’d say to someone starting out be spontaneous, trust in yourself and just enjoy every experience you get.”
