Star Crew escape room prepares for liftoff | Review

Do you love a hands-on activity where you are working with friends, trying to solve unique and creative puzzles? Well, there’s a new weekend activity for you.

From the creators of Earthrise One, a new Sci-Fi escape room is being launched into space, and your itineraries, open now!

With its concept funded in two days from a Kickstarter campaign, this Richmond immersive game is bound to blow your minds, while you blow up barrels in space.

This is not just any ordinary escape room; this is an immersive experience where you forget the realities of Earth.

Being an escape room fan myself, I had expected a traditional escape, but it was more than what I imagined.

Instead of the typical lock and keys, this experience felt like a life-size video game where controllers are used to navigate throughout space, all while being challenged with digital puzzles.

Upon entering the room, players immediately realise how thought-out and carefully planned this experience is, even including costume elements to embed yourself into the space simulation further.

The room feels like a spaceship, and while the opening moments may leave you completely disoriented and confused, you’ll soon find your footing and begin tackling the first challenges.

The setup is highly dynamic, with lights, games and alerts all working in sync to guide you through the 60-minute challenge, where keeping an open mind is your key to success.

Without giving away too many specific details, a highlight of the room was a challenge that involved making sounds into a microphone to hit a certain target. Being tone deaf myself, this turned into a hilarious moment that left my group in hysterics.

A fellow Star Crew member, Lara Kalkan, said this moment was "a really entertaining part that had people letting loose and diving into the experience".

Finishing the room gives you a genuine sense of accomplishment, especially after your group’s teamwork and communication were put to the test. For something out of the ordinary, Star Crew is well worth checking out if you’re after a high-tech, immersive experience to share with friends.
