Black – forever No.1 in our fashion hearts

People seem to hold an enormous love for black.

It's a recurring fashion trend that goes beyond the seasons, popular in winter essentials like a big fur coat or summer frocks such as a thin strapped dress.

This could be due to the shade’s simplicity and sophisticated feel. Black can add to an outfit, and seems to work wonders on nearly every body shape.

Whatever the reason, our  strategists are showing us how to wear it well.

Mala and Seorin looked stylish in Topshop and adidas by adding a splash of denim to their black-on-black ensembles.

If you are too scared to wear nothing but black, try tying a denim shirt around your waist, match your black ensemble with a pair of blue jeans to break up the dark tone while adding a trendy edge.

But if you are brave enough to tackle the #allblackeverythang look like Sarona and Xin, then a bomber jacket can be your best friend.

Streetegist Sarona wore her long bomber with a loose V-neck T-shirt and black jeans.

An item like the bomber jacket is a great addition to your wardrobe, particularly if you want to layer it over dark colours, as it is so versatile.

It can be dressed up, layered over a short black slip dress, paired with a strappy black heel and accessorised with some silver jewellery.

Or, if you are out for a casual lunch, you could throw your bomber over a loose black T-shirt, some ripped jeans and adidas Stan Smiths, and you are set to go.

Boohoo.com has a great, affordable black bomber jacket that could get you through the end of winter and spring. If you want to give this style a go, click here to see where to buy it.

At Monash Caulfield campus, streetegists dress for comfort for much of the time.

Although many may think that dressing for comfort means wearing striped adidas track pants and an oversized Monash University hoodie, streetegists Kiandra and Era looked stylish with their relaxed take on black outfits.

Whether you are wearing a pair of jeans like Kiandra or Lorna Jane leggings like Era, a simple black sneaker is both comfortable and stylish when worn with any look.

Any Nike or adidas sneaker you have can look great, but you can also take a more subtle approach with a simple flatform instead of sneakers.

Flatforms are a flat shoe with a high, thick sole, and can make your legs look that little bit longer when worn with tight pants.

They look great in black, and ASOS has a pair that can be your key to comfort and style when getting around from day to day.

You don't have to be fashion savvy or gothic to like wearing black. It’s an easy shade that works well with almost any other colour.

And as Karl Lagerfeld tells us: “You can never be overdressed or underdressed in a little black dress.”
