Generation J presents: Journalism and social media

Welcome to  Generation J, a podcast on media issues developed by Monash University's journalism students.  We will be looking at issues in social media, journalistic ethics, newsrooms, the future of the industry and innovations in the field.

In the first episode we look into the blurring of our public and private lives on social media. We discuss the importance of branding ourselves as journalists, wonder whether our employers should monitor our social media use and consider where to draw the line between free speech and abuse, in light of Mark Latham’s recent Twitter activity.

It includes an interview with a law student who wasn’t hired because of what he posted on Instagram; an academic researching social media governance, Andrew Quodling; and a Monash University journalism lecturer, Julie Tullberg.

This podcast was produced by Lindsey Green and Kerryn Hildebrand with help from Tim Newport and Simon Galletta. Get in touch with us at generationj@monash.edu
