Melbourne did not miss out on the global PokĂ©mon food trend.

Known for its serious culinary credentials, this city is taking Pokémon food in various kawaii and mouth-watering directions, drawing inspiration from creations such as Pikachu churros in New York and Charmander burgers in Sydney.

The successful augmented reality game has turned the gaming world upside down, and it was only a matter of time before the foodie world joined in.

On Instagram, everyone went nuts over Vickie Liu’s Pokemon GOnuts.

These frosted offerings are carefully crafted to resemble the cute little pocket monsters, which are soft, light, and have a surprisingly moist, cake-like texture.

They are petite for their $6-per-donut price tag, though maybe that just gives us all the more reason to eat four of them in one sitting.

Vicki Liu’s donuts were on sale for a limited time in South Yarra’s Darling Cafe and Percy’s Aeroplane CafĂ© in Kew. But don’t fret! You can head to Ms Liu’s Instagram for updates on where these doughnuts might appear next, or just order them directly from her.

Sisko Chocolates poke sphere.

Located in Hawthorn and Eastland Shopping Centre, Sisko Chocolate has its own dramatic spin on the PokĂ©ball. The red-and-white chocolate ball is served in a double-wall glass alongside a flask of steaming hot chocolate.

We won’t spoil the theatrics behind the beverage, but what we can tell you is that you will need to pour the hot chocolate into the Pokéball for a surprise.

Sisko’s hot chocolate was smooth, rich, and essentially a sweet pool of chocolate bliss that will leave you swooning for more. The Pokéball itself was pure indulgence that melts in your mouth with a creamy intensity — who knew Pokéballs tasted this good?

However, the cost worked out to be about $2 per sip (and $11 in total).

White Mojos Pikachu matcha latte.

While Pokémon GO players struggle to find Pikachus in Melbourne, at Balwyn’s White Mojo, you can easily Pika-choose Pokémon on your matcha lattes. The vibrant green matcha and impeccable latte art are a cut above the rest in Melbourne.

For $6 per cup, you get a matcha latte that is not only adorable and Instagram-worthy; every latte is velvety smooth, pleasantly sweet, and retains that perfect subtle bitterness you can only find in the very best matcha.

Remember to take many pictures, as this is probably the closest you will ever get to finding a Pikachu.

WORTH THE HYPE?

Yes! While this trend is leaning towards the more expensive side for now, it is also urging restaurants and cafés all over Melbourne to hone in on their creativity and become more innovative.

This trend is not going anywhere, and future possibilities are endless. Perhaps a Pikachu ice-cream that won’t leave a hole in our wallets? A Bulbasaur freakshake? Squirtle cocktails? Charmander chips?

Here's hoping that at least one place has a Pokéstop.
