Social media and feminism: hot or not?

Social media can often be a double-edged sword for feminists. While it enables greater ability to connect and engage, often it leads to abuse from random strangers, or "trolls". What is it currently like to be a woman online? Mojo spoke to Dr Claire Tanner, Lecturer in Sociology at Monash University, about whether social media can be an empowering place for women.

Dr Tanner teaches gender studies at Monash and specialises in the sociology of health and illness. Her book Vanity: 21st Century Selves investigated how vanity plays a role in a variety of fields, including feminist approaches to the body and beauty.
