Sustainable Development Goals report finds young people left behind

At this year's United Nation's General Assembly (UNGA), there was more urgency and prominence given to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Initiated in 2015, the SDGs are 17 ambitious goals aimed at making the world more liveable, fairer and sustainable by 2030.

Recent reports show that despite marginal progress on some of the goals, the world is nowhere near achieving the SGDs by 2030.

Scientists and world leaders echoed their concerns about the urgent climate actions needed to avoid devastating consequences of global warming that seem closer to us than ever.

report was released in July 2023 with a focus on measuring youth index with regards to the progress of the SDGs in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific region.

The research was carried out by the Sustainable Development Solution Network (SDSN) Youth AusNZPac, a UN initiative lead by Monash Sustainable Development Institute (MSDI).

The results show that the region's youth are left behind in almost all goal areas such as psychological well-being and poverty.

In this MOJO podcast we talk to Isabelle Zhu-Maguire, who worked on this youth index report. The conversation covers details of the research, youth activism, and the prospect of change and progress for young people.
