Long walk brings communities together in cultural celebration

The Long Walk is an iconic event that celebrates the legacy of Aboriginal AFL player Michael Long and his dedication to supporting and fighting for the lives and freedom of his people.

Held on the 23rd of May, the event featured a variety of activities aimed at bringing together Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in a safe, fun, and inclusive space. It provided an opportunity for people to connect, share cultures, and learn more about Aboriginal culture.

The program included live music, family-friendly games, dance performances, and numerous food stalls for visitors to enjoy. The highlight of the event was the iconic walk to the MCG, where attendees joined together in a powerful display of unity.

One visitor, April, shared her thoughts as a first-time attendee.

“I think it’s a very vibrant environment. Everyone is really up and about, and it’s just really good to be here,” April said.

Two other visitors, Paula and Malita, also spoke about the importance of the event.

“It’s good to see the communities coming together,” Paula said.

“Yeah, it’s really good to see my family,” Malita added.
