Woman killed outside Clayton Campus in hit-run, car dumped

A woman has been killed outside Monash University’s Clayton campus during a hit-run tragedy last night.

Police believe the driver of a dark-coloured station wagon was speeding when it struck the woman. The vehicle was later found dumped in North Road, Clayton.

The victim is yet to be identified and it is not known if she was a Monash University student or staff member.

It's believed the woman was crossing Wellington Road, near Scenic Boulevard when she was struck around 10pm.

Emergency services arrived at the scene just after 10pm and created a roadblock on Wellington Road, while they investigated.

The vehicle was found dumped an hour later. It's not yet known if it was stolen.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have appealed for anyone with information, or dashcam footage, to contact police.

191 lives have been lost on Victorian roads this year, up from 133 this time last year.
