Australians have shown a relaxed attitude to a two-year rise in retirement age unlike their French counterparts who have sparked violent protests.

France's decision to increase its retirement age from 62 to 64 in January sparked widespread protests and calls for President Emmanuel Macron to resign.

However, the same policy enacted in Australia a few months later saw little more than a whimper from the working public. This is despite Australians now needing to work until the age of 67 before being eligible for retirement benefits, such as the age pension.
