An Iranian refugee and founder of Phat Stacks burger in Camberwell has been jailed for drug trafficking.

Emad Zarghami, 24, was found to be carrying 261 grams of cocaine and $100,000 when he was stopped by police as he drove his Audi from Melbourne's Crown Casino on Boxing Day 2017.

He was on bail at the time after previously being found with amphetamines, cocaine, ecstasy and cannabis.

The court heard Zarghami arrived in Australia by boat with his family when he was a child, after they fled Iran.

He received a scholarship to study commerce at the University of Melbourne and opened the Phat Stacks burger shop in Camberwell with his family.

Judge Michael Tinney noted the 24 year-old had been a "success story" until his descent into crime.

Judge Tinny said Zarghami was not pressured by financial stress and branded his cocaine trafficking a “deliberate choice”.

Zarghami’s mother burst into tears when her son was sentenced to three years and seven months in jail.

He will serve a minimum two years and three months behind bars, before being eligible for parole.
