Looking back at Port Arthur
The 1996 Port Arthur shooting spree by lone gunman Martin Bryant led to Australia adopting gun laws that are among the strictest in the world.

Twenty-three years ago today, a lone gunman stalked and executed men, women and children as they visited historic Tasmanian tourist destination Port Arthur.

Not long after the final shots rang out, leaving 35 people dead and 23 injured, Channel 7 journalist Dean Allen-Craig was tasked with reporting one of Australia's worst mass shootings.

No longer a television reporter, Mr Allen-Craig reflects on that horrific day and provides some advice for young reporters.
