Growing concern for missing man Yiwei Chu

By AMBER SCHULTZ

Friends and family have taken to Facebook to express their growing concern for missing Mount Waverley man Yiwei Chu, who has not been seen  since Wednesday.

Mr Chu, who is also known as Carl, was last seen by his wife Emma Wang on Wednesday morning when he dropped her off at work in Hawthorn East at 9am.

The pair continued chatting through Chinese social media network WeChat until 2.35pm.

Ms Wang raised the alarm with police when her husband failed to collect her from work and could not be contacted.

The couple’s housemate Cindy Zhang said Mr Chu’s disappearance was out of character.

“Normally he’s always home. There were no arguments between [he and his wife],”  Ms Zhang wrote in a private Facebook message.

“He just suddenly went missing.”

Ms Zhang shared information about his disappearance on popular Monash student community Facebook page Monash Stalkerspace.

Friends have described the Chinese national in a Facebook post as 186cm tall, weighing 88kg, and with a mole under his nose.

He was last seen wearing black glasses, a black jumper with cartoon dog Snoopy on it, blue jeans, and shoes with blue and white stripes.

His car, a white Camry, is also missing.

Victoria police have appealed for public assistance to locate the 28-year-old.

Police spokesman Adam West said in a statement police held concerns for the man.

“His disappearance is out of character,” he said.

Anyone who sees Mr Chu or has information on his whereabouts is urged to contact Mount Waverley Police Station on 9567 8900.
