Campus fashion special: Salute to our streetegist heroes
After a semester of bringing you the best of campus style, CORINNA LAGERBERG and STEPHANIE CHEN choose the pick of the crop.
Dear streetegists,
We have decided to dedicate our last issue for the semester to all of you. A huge thank you goes out to all our streetegists who have provided us with inspirational style for the past semester. In saying that, there are a few of you who we couldn’t forget if we tried. Being well dressed is a beautiful form of politeness and we hope to bump in to may more of you well mannered people when we return after the break.
So here’s to the Streetegist heroes!
Your style stalkers,
Corinna and Stephanie
LOOK 1 – OPSHOP CHIC
Looking back, this outfit was the perfect go-to for any cash-strapped fashion lover. Whoever said thrifty couldn’t be trendy clearly hasn’t seen this streetegist. This outfit is a testament to the individual and distinctive look that only comes from an afternoon browsing in second hand stores. While Macklemore certainly brought back the thrift shop, there is no way we think this girl looks 99 cents.
LOOK 2 – BOHEMIAN PRINCESS
Out favourite fashion fairytale this semester was definitely the Bohemian Princess. Adorned in earthy colours of orange and cream, she breathed life into her vintage-inspired suede brogues. She was influenced by styles of the world, her painted wooden earrings gave her outfit an exotic flair. Details mattered to her, right down to her collection of silver rings. The bright colours she cloaked herself in gave off an air of frivolity and joy, which we simply could not forget. Just like a fairytale, this outfit has an enduring appeal.
LOOK 3 – BOW DOWN TO THE TURTLENECK
It’s difficult to even think back to autumn and winter trends on campus this semester without mentioning the turtleneck. The high-neck knit took over the fashion world and Monash campuses. The traditional fine and chunky turtlenecks were spotted worn with skirts and pants and layered under coats. We also saw some innovative turtlenecks, with highly patterned prints and unexpected silhouettes layered under dresses and jumpers. With that said, we’ve rounded up one of our stand-out styles for this semester in this streetegist.
LOOK 4 – THE FRESH PRINCE OF CAULFIELD
We had this song AND this look stuck in our head for weeks after spotting this streetegist. Rinse and repeat, with a semester recap once again we are caught incessantly humming this song to ourselves. Enjoy! Now, this is a story all about how, dull street wear got flipped-turned upside down. And I’d like to take a minute, just sit right there, I’ll tell you how he became the prince of street wear … This streetegist’s Nike high tops, backpack and layered shirts definitely have a teenager charm about them. We feel the bomber jacket adds a '90s twist, with the shoes bringing it back to the modern day. This was definitely one the freshest and coolest outfits we saw on campus this semester.
LOOK 5 – CHARMING CULOTTES
The culottes were one of the more daring high fashion pieces we saw on campus this semester. While some think they can be slightly masculine, we beg to differ. The mischievous hint of ankle adds a feminine quirk, while the A-line shape creates an hourglass figure by accentuating the waist. Perfect for short girls as there is no tailoring hassle here, culottes can be bold or simple, it’s really your choice. Pair them with a heel, or in this streetegist’s case a Nike, the culottes are definitely one of the biggest pants trends of the year.
LOOK 6 – WHAT’S COOKIN DADDY-O?
We simply could not forget this outfit if we tried. The super cool jazzy avant-garde style of this look is remarkable. We LOVE when someone is so original and out there that we have to unpack our cameras and take a snap – very much the case here. We adore the mish-mash of colours and patterns, the vintage influences and the worn saxophone come together to create a showstopper of an outfit for this semester.
LOOK 7 – WE’RE ALL OVER THE OVERALLS
To conclude our semester recap we decided to reminisce on an outfit that was bursting with imagination and creativity. The reinvention of the '90s overalls in this outfit was one of our favourite looks. Overalls definitely have a boy-meets-girl element to them, a trend that has been dominating the fashion world in recent years. But what we love best about the overalls is their versatility, you can rock the long denim overalls for more of a '70s style, or the cuter and more feminine short overalls. You can roll them, leave one strap unbuttoned and layer it with all sorts of tops underneath. The overalls are bringing the '90s back one strap at a time and our streetegists are doing them proud!
