Microscope on our media habits

The media landscape is changing rapidly. How do we as media consumers access our news? Are we seeing a shift to the online realm? Who are the major players in this shift? Mojo went to Nick Parkin, former ABC journalist and current lecturer here at Monash, in search of answers. Students around campus also chimed in to explain what motivates their consumption habits.

THE PODCAST TEAM

Producer: Nicholas Li @nalinternet
Nicholas Li is a third-year journalism student at Monash. A news junkie and avid radio listener, he has a fondness for all things #auspol. Nicholas recommends Rafael Epstein’s drive program on 774 for keeping up to date with the news and Ronny Chieng’s ‘OK COOL’ podcast for something lighter.

Reporter: Tess Ikonomou @tessikonomou
Tess Ikonomou is a third-year journalism student at Monash. She is a deputy editor at mojo news, and is the AP of Panorama, a news and current affairs radio programme at SYN media. In her spare time she undertakes jiu-jitsu training, and likes nothing more than binge watching Netflix's House of Cards.

Reporter: Ranee Orklin @raneeorklin
Ranee Orklin is currently in her third year of studying journalism and politics at Monash University. She has worked with FBi and SYN media and hopes to report for Triple J's Hack in the not too distant future. Amateur photographer, videographer, journalist ... hoping to one day become pro.

Next: In our next podcast we discuss the recent cuts at Fairfax; a change in the industry seemingly for the worse.
