Mojo TV goes from serious to surprising: sexism in sport, politics, coffee roads and wrestling
Mojo TV's second episode explores news and current affairs, and features interviews with senior journalists Caroline Wilson and Rebecca Maddern, as well as political candidate and gay activist Jason Ball. Also: turning coffee into roads, mead, wrestling, language apps and electric cars.
The second episode of MOJO TV – a web series created entirely by Monash University’s journalism students – features news and current affairs pieces produced by students throughout the semester.
Sexism and women in the media was the topic when we spoke to senior journalist and new host of The Footy Show Rebecca Maddern and The Age's chief football writer Caroline Wilson, who also appears on 3AW and Channel 9's Footy Classified. Also: an interview with political candidate and gay activist Jason Ball, turning coffee into roads, mead, wrestling, language apps and electric cars.
MOJO TV creates content for both video and online platforms. It is the official video component of Mojo News, the Monash University student online magazine.
Presenters
Anneliese Wilson is in her last semester of journalism. She started at Mojo TV working the autocue but loves presenting and looks forward to getting into the workforce.
Will Zwar is a second-year journalism student who has dabbled in many different media, having just finished a year on community radio at SYN while also writing football reports for the WRFL. Although a sports fanatic, Will takes an interest in just about any aspect of life, and looks forward to travelling the world and writing about everything he learns and experiences from what he plans to be a wonderful life. @zwar_w
Reporters
Georgia Gibson is in her final year of studying journalism at Monash. She has found a passion for video production at uni thanks to the great new facilities Monash has available. She is interested in politics and loved covering a short part of Jason Ball's campaign for her story.
James Wong is a first-year Masters of Journalism student. His first dive into media has been covering all things rugby union in Victoria in lieu of lacing up the boots himself. In his spare time, he can usually be found taking on the next cooking project.
Georgie Owen is studying Arts/Law at Monash and she thinks that she is the world’s worst law student. She likes to be with friends and family, travel to interesting places, eat good food and swim in nice beaches.
Travis Jones is studying a Bachelor of Journalism. He is an avid reader, basketball nut and potentially, hopefully, not really yet, a journalist.
Jess Carrascalao Heard is a Master of Journalism student who loves photojournalism and broadcast media, and relishes being behind the lens or a microphone. She is also a classical soprano, and when not singing loudly or taking photos, she spends her time lamenting that MasterChef and 7.30 are programmed against each other in the nightly TV schedule.
Luke Dundon is an enthusiastic coffee-drinking, video-making traveler who just returned from a semester abroad at the Danish School of Media and Journalism. He is a third-year Arts student majoring in journalism and international studies and hopes to be the love child of John Oliver and Hamish McDonald.
Joel Murugiah is an international student from warm and wonderful Malaysia doing a double degree in journalism and business. In his spare time he enjoys looking for the best hot chocolate Melbourne has to offer, talking about all sorts of things from professional wrestling to casting choices in superhero movies and following his beloved Manchester United in their attempts to return to their all-conquering glory days.
Paul Ionescu has a Masters in Science and is currently studying his Masters of Journalism at Monash. He chose that degree because he is passionate about reading and writing and he thinks that news is important to everyone.
Production team
Director: Ashleigh Paholek is a third-year arts student at Monash. She is the executive producer for Mojo TV. Her broadcast career started when she was 17, presenting and producing a travel show. She loves to spend time cooking and, when she gets a chance, like to sew clothes for herself. @AshPaholek
Camera: Ouyang Renyuan is doing a Masters degree in journalism and international relations. He is a passionate learner, photographer and aspiring producer. Right now, Ouyang enjoys practicing behind the scenes.
Vision: Emily Carroll was excited to work behind the scenes after co-hosting the first episode of Mojo TV. She can’t wait for the next episode.
Sound: Himani Sikka is studying a Masters in communications and media studies at Monash University. She is keen to work in broadcast journalism and hopes to be a foreign correspondent. With her skills and knowledge, she feels prepared, focused, professional and future-ready.
Autocue: Lucy Majstorovic is a third year arts/commerce student at Monash University who loves sunny weather, good food and bad news puns. She would like to either travel the world and spend all of her money or become the CEO of an intimidatingly large company – she just can’t decide which yet.
