Streetegists: How to handle Melbourne's seasonal challenge in style

As March rolls around we find ourselves in an upset state of dress. Autumn is charming but disagreeable as we struggle to transition between seasons. In true Melburnian style, we must dress for a morning of shivers as we struggle to our first lecture and an afternoon of chasing the air conditioning between buildings. These Streetegists have nailed the seasonal dress with a few style rules and key pieces.

When it comes to mixed weather, your first instinct will be to cover up with sleeves. There are many ways to wear a jacket as the weather changes throughout the day. Anastasiia has executed the "I’m too stylish for the heat" vibe as she effortlessly wears her leather jacket rested on her shoulders. Another way to wear your jacket is by thinking of it as an accessory. You can tie it around your shoulders or around your waist like Bhavini and you have yourself a two-in-one stylish piece.

The next stride in transitional dressing is putting your best foot forward, literally! It’s all about footwear. After months of sandal love affairs, it's time to step out in something a little more varnished. Closed-in footwear will be your best friend over the next few months. Our Streetegists are leading the way with Alina and Sonja in patent leather brogues. We adore Samantha’s Martiniano closed-in slides – very business in the front, party in the back – perfect for indecisive weather conditions. Comfort, as always, is in high demand. This is where your luxe lace-ups come in handy, as Anastasiia and Bhavini have shown.

The most exciting part of autumn is that trousers are now viable. This means we can start to open up our winter wardrobes and implement winter pieces in the lead up to a complete cool down. Practice makes perfect. Wide and straight-legged trousers are great for sophisticated looks as Samantha has shown in her cigarette pants. Sonja’s pegged pants are also faultless in autumn, as they are more breathable than fitted styles.

So when you’re trying to decide on an outfit in autumn, always think how the weather does. When it comes to that not-so-effortless four-seasons-in-one-day style, its best to always keep things adaptable. Consider what pieces are going to get you through the day and how can you wear them as the temperature changes. One thing’s for sure, transitioning seasons will be a little more achievable once you let the style vibes of these Streetegists rub off on you.
