France's decision to increase its retirement age from 62 to 64 in January sparked widespread protests and calls for President Emmanuel Macron to resign.

However, the same policy enacted in Australia a few months later saw little more than a whimper from the working public. This is despite Australians now needing to work until the age of 67 before being eligible for retirement benefits, such as the age pension.
