Bach Recap: A chemical engineer provides the formula for love

By ATARA THENABADU

The Bachelor has finally reached the end of the love rollercoaster, and we couldn’t be happier because, SPOILER...Abbie got dumped!

In the season finale, chemical engineer Chelsie and gemini Abbie were the last two women standing.

Chelsie started and ended the season strong, while Abbie bounced all over the place, making everyone laugh one second and then cry the next. Abbie was undoubtedly the season’s villain.

But Matt appeared unaware of anything going on throughout the season so somehow we ended up with Chelsie and Abbie in the final...Elly you deserved to be there, girl.

But before we reached the finale on Thursday night, Matt still had to choose his final two, between Helena, Chelsie, and Abbie. Before he made his decision, he took each woman out on a single date.

On Matt and Chelsie’s date, Matt spoiled her with a locked box that could only be opened when an equation was cracked using numbers related to each of their dates.

The two scientists completely geeked out over it, which was the first sign Chelsie had this in the bag.

Matt will only ever be happy with a fellow nerd by his side.

Chelsie cracked the code and found a necklace inside that contained the oxytocin chemical breakdown (the scientific symbol of love).

So romantic.

Now let’s have a look back at how Matt and Abbie’s final date went...pash rash alert!

We were subjected to watch Matt and Abbie dry hump on the beach...fantastic!

Finally Abbie said “I love you” to Matt, which was followed by, guess what? More snogging.

After Chelsie and Abbie’s strong single dates, it was hard to believe Helena could match them considering her history of breakdowns mid-episode.

In short, the pair drove in a fancy car, sat at a table in the country-side and discussed their doomed future together. Not even the Spanish menu Matt had 'prepared' was going to save them.

So it was no shocker at the rose ceremony on Wednesday night when Helena didn’t receive a rose and left the mansion.

This left Chelsie and Abbie to jet set off to beautiful South Africa for the finale.

But this wasn’t a romantic getaway because Matt brought along his two friends Jason and Kate to grill the two women before he made his final decision.

Kate appeared earlier in the season and according to Jason is “the biggest bullshit detector”, so we were in for a treat.

Kate already disliked Abbie from meeting her previously so their chat was set up for failure.

Abbie went on the charm offensive, but Kate was not buying it at all.

Then when Matt’s friends met Chelsie, they both loved her straight away. Shocker!

But Matt still needed some time to sort it out, as if warnings from his friends not to choose Abbie wasn’t enough.

The producers were just squeezing out what was left in their budget at this point, sending Matt and Abbie off in a helicopter to see South Africa from above.

For some reason Matt decided to hit Abbie with the science of craters. I think he forgot he was not talking to Chelsie.

The next day we had Chelsie’s safari single date, where they geeked out over the animals, as they seem to do with everything.

Chelsie told Matt she loved him, which was followed by lots of kissing...gross!

This was all building up the final decision, and the producers almost gave all of Australia a heart attack when Chelsie stepped out of the car first (usually a sign that they will come second).

But, of course, they were just playing with us and Abbie walked up to meet Matt first, sealing her fate.

Abbie did not take her dumping well, leaving in the car angry and finally shedding some tears after confessing that maybe she didn’t love Matt after all....

But Matt pulled himself together and finally confessed his love for Chelsie in front of the sunset, signifying the start of their official relationship. Yay!

Let’s hope they last more than a few months, because we don’t want to see either of them on the next season of Bachelor in Paradise.
